Sad demise of Vinod Raina

Vinod Raina an eminent educationist, passed away on September 12 2013. 


Vinod Raina was recently engaged in advocacy work for Right in Education legislation and was member of its drafting committee. He is a member of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE). Vinod Raina did his doctoral in Physics from Delhi University and taught there for over a decade before leaving to serve school education directly. He worked voluntarily in rural schools of central India thereafter for quality improvement of school education, after founding the organization Eklavya. Engrossed completely in the task, he worked passionately and prepared the curriculum, trained teachers and worked out innovative methods of examinations. Later, through the organization, Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti, (BGVS), he worked and developed the campaign mode of adult literacy and extended it all over India from 1989 in collaboration with the National Literacy Mission, Government of India.

Vinod Raina was a visiting Professor at the Lingnan University, Hong Kong. He worked as a Chief Editor for the book. The Dispossessed: Victims of Development in Asia, ARENA Press, HK. He Is a member of the International Council, World Social Forum. He received various facilitations. Some of them include-

  • Honorary Lifetime Fellow, Indian Science Writers Association
  • Asia Leadership Fellow (ALFP) 2002 (Japan Foundation and International House of Japan)
  • Fellow and Chair, Asian Regional Exchange for New Alternatives; HK/Seoul
KJVS expressed deep shock and grieve the sad demise of Vinod Raina.
